Sports were part of my family's life, but I didn't play because I didn't know how. PowerPlay taught me how to play. Now, I can't even pick a favorite sport because I like to play them all

I joined PowerPlay in search for a community as means of strengthening my social, academic, and personal development skills.

I LOVE PowerPlay and SSLA because of the fact that they build a community for everyone — we all came in as strangers but everyone left the program as a family member for me.

PowerPlay introduced me to Basketball on a different level, and I am enrolling in a competition in NYC based on the coaching and mentorship I received from PowerPlay Coaches. If you are a girl in NYC and would love to develop yourself as a woman, this is the right program for you.

I joined PowerPlay because I wanted to learn how to be bold and how to be a leader instead of just a follower.

I really liked the college fair we had at Columbia University because I gained knowledge on the college application process and tips on how to craft a good essay. I loved the fun and upbeat environment that PowerPlay provides for all the girls.

I really liked the adventure course from Princeton Blairstown camping trip one the summer, it was thrilling. PowerPlay introduced me to roller skating for the first time, and it was fun. I love SSLA and I recommend the program to anyone one — SSLA is a program that allows you to be yourself.

I came to PowerPlay because I wanted to experience new things and see what it means to be a leader.

My favorite moment in PowerPlay was when we held a human trafficking awareness event at Union Square, it made me feel that I was making a difference.

My favorite memory was when we sat around the campfire and told stories about our lives — it was really inspiring and we were a family. To all young ladies who are afraid of public speaking, come and join PowerPlay because they would support grow out of your comfort zones and face your fears.

I didn’t hesitate to join PowerPlay and SSLA because it was a chance to gain new experiences that weren’t usually possible.

PowerPlay doesn’t discriminate — they work so hard to empower the girls no matter how different they are. I was exposed to roller derby, tennis and hip-hop dancing for the first time and I loved all of them.

If you are a girl like me who doesn’t usually get opportunities to do something you like, Power Play is the right program for you. I recently attended a financial literacy workshop at First Republic Bank where I learnt a great deal about managing my finances, savings and investing. Thank you PowerPlay and team for the opportunity.

Meet

Rayanna

I joined PowerPlay in July 2018 to help build myself, explore new territories and meet new people.

I enjoyed fitness sessions because it gave me the opportunity to try something new and fun.

I loved meeting new people both staff and peers to make contacts that could be used as a support system for crafting college essays and scholarships. I enjoyed dancing at the talent show and every moment with Coach Taylor because she was so uplifting and brought positive vibes.

I joined PowerPlay because I was inspired by a former SSLA alumna who had a great experience, I wanted to feel the same way too!

The mentorship program has been the most impactful to me because I met new people and professionals who share the same interest and values.

I love the program because of it’s limitless exposure to opportunities to create bonds with new people. I recommend PowerPlay’s great experience to the girls out there, especially those who would want to shape their lives to do well in school and go to college.

Meet

Trassy

I joined PowerPlay to be part of something great and to have fun exposed to different things and opportunities for girls.

The panel at American Express was the most impactful workshop I received during SSLA — it opened my eyes to a prospective career in the financial sector and how I can leverage the support of fearless female role models for success.

I am particularly attracted to PowerPlay because of the exposure and opportunities they give us — girls! Thank you PowerPlay for your support and continued efforts to empower girls of NYC.
