PowerPlay proudly celebrated National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) with an unforgettable MLB Play Ball event! NWGSD is an annual celebration dedicated to empowering girls through sports. We wanted to reinforce the importance of access, opportunity, and representation in athletics while highlighting the critical role that physical participation plays in building confidence, leadership, and teamwork skills.
With over 70 enthusiastic young girls in attendance, the event provided an opportunity for them to develop their softball skills under the guidance of two legendary figures—Olympic gold medalists Jennie Finch and Natasha Watley. These women served as a powerful reminder of what is possible when girls are given the chance to pursue their athletic dreams. Through hands-on instruction and drills, our girls not only strengthened their skills but also learned valuable lessons in perseverance.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the MLB Play Ball, Jennie Finch, Natasha Watley, and everyone who contributed to making this event such a meaningful experience. For the students of PS 111, this day was more than just an introduction to softball— We know this day was an inspiring moment that will leave a lasting impact on our students at PS 111. It will serve as a reminder that there is a place for them in sports and on the field.
