Job Description:

The Senior Program Manager at PowerPlay NYC (PowerPlay) will be responsible for overseeing
the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21C) day and after school programs. The
position provides leadership in creating an inviting and safe environment for extra-curricular
and academic opportunities for students. Responsible for assuring high-quality program
services and support to enrolled students and their families over five sites in the Bronx, NY. The
position requires the ability to manage multiple projects, think creatively to access resources
and evaluate existing programs/relationships. Responsible for managing and training site
coordinators and coaches, as well as planning and executing programs. The Senior Program
Manager will help promote a positive image of PowerPlay’s core mission, values and purpose.

ABOUT POWERPLAY
PowerPlay is a nonprofit organization with a mission is to advance the lives of girls through
sports, helping them grow physically, emotionally, and academically stronger. We serve more
than 1,300 young people ages 5–18 each year, 97% of whom are youth of color—primarily
Black and Latinx girls. Each year, PowerPlay partners with an average of 30 public schools and
community-based organizations across all five boroughs of New York City, bringing after-school
and summer programs to underserved communities with a focus on physical fitness and
education.

We deliver three core programs: STARS Series, which serves elementary and middle school girls
across all five boroughs; STARS CGI (Citywide Girls Initiative), where PowerPlay leads a coalition
of 10 nonprofits supporting the healthy development of 6,000 girls citywide; and 21C.

About 21C
21C empowers Bronx students in the underserved communities of Concourse and Morrisania
with leadership, healthy living, and academic enrichment to foster resilience and college/career
readiness. Serving 774 youth (in FY25) across five high-need schools, 21C offers sports, STEM,
tutoring, SAT and Regents test prep, the arts, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and
entrepreneurship, in partnership with Platinum Edge Tutoring.

Responsibilities:

Program Management: 21C
· Oversee program performance standards including recruitment, enrollment and retention
of program participants in accordance with grant expectations and requirements.
· Supervise four Site Coordinators and program coaches.
· Facilitate performance discussions to ensure program goals and objectives are met.
· Ensure all staff and programmatic activities comply with the expectations of the 21st
Century Grant.
· Provide ongoing staff development for program staff to increase their skills to achieve
program outcomes.
· Coordinate staffing schedule, staff timesheets, and payroll with the President & CEO.
· Build and maintain a high level of communication and positive relationships with school
partners, staff, administration, families and community partners.
· Supervise/manage program orientation, encourage involvement, and maintain monthly
contact with families and schools.
· Create and distribute enrollment forms, emergency contact sheets, and program guidelines
to partner sites for distribution among families and school members.
· Accountable for working with subcontractors to create programming grids and ensure
accurate tracking of enrollment, daily attendance and data entry into Afterschool21 to meet
21C program requirements. Note, you will be working with subcontractors and their program
representatives (managers). Responsible for indirectly monitoring subcontractor on-site staff
to ensure quality services and adherence to grant guidelines.
· Collect and review vendor invoices and work with PowerPlay finance team and Sr.
Development Manager to submit invoices, pay vendors and ensure we are within grant
guidelines.
· Creating, maintaining and revising 21C budget (FS-10) with the assistance of PowerPlay
finance team and Sr. Development Manager. Also review FS-25, FS-10A and FS-10F provided by
PowerPlay finance team.
· Collaborate with NYSED management team and external evaluator to provide ongoing
updates of our programmatic duties and receive technical assistance (from TARC – Technical
Assistance Resource Center) if needed.
· Must attend mandatory annual 21C fall and spring conferences.
· Responsible for working on and submitting the annual mid-year report alongside the
external evaluator. 

QUALIFICATIONS
· At least 5 years of experience in education and positive youth development providing
school based, after-school and summer related programming; At least 2 years of supervising a
team.
· Requires the credentials to obtain a SAAC license (18 college credits in education or NYS
School Aged Care Credentials).
· Must have unexpired CPR/First Aid certification 
· Requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education.
· Expert understanding of NYC and NY State education requirements in an urban setting.
· Ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate solutions.
· Exceptional skills for analyzing data and attention to detail.
· Time management and multitasking skills in order to handle tasks.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school leadership and
coaches.
· Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to
interact with a diverse range of individuals applying tact and discretion as situations demand.
· Responsible and professional conduct serving as role model to staff and youth.
· Flexible and adaptable – Ability to work with changing conditions and priorities, willingness
to work some evenings and weekends.
· Proactive, “can-do” approach/attitude; demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness.
· Accountable – willing to accept responsibility for tasks, projects and outcomes.

EDUCATION
· Bachelor’s degree required with preference in Education, Psychology, or Social Work

COMPUTER SKILLS
· Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products
· Knowledge of utilizing Google Drive to receive and share documents
· Experience with Afterschool21 platform a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The usual and customary methods of performing this position’s functions require the following
physical demands:
· Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling so has a moderate degree of physical
stamina.
· Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, bending and occasional lifting up to 50lbs.
· Position will require consistent visits to the storage unit to secure, return, and distribute
sporting equipment with coaching staff.

Job Type: Full Time

Salary: $75,000- 80,000
