This summer during our Leadership Academy, PowerPlay had the opportunity to meet peers from not only across the five boroughs but across the world. We came together thanks to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA to meet, talk and do with Magic Bus on a *magical* July afternoon.
“Sport for development programs across the globe are leveraging sport as a flexible tool to promote the empowerment of girls. In New York City, PowerPlay NYC prepares at-risk girls for college and employment through a combination of sport and academic enrichment. Over 7,000 miles away, Magic Bus uses physical activities and games to maximize girls’ potential and break the vicious cycle of poverty.
With a world between them, these programs remain united by their commitment to strengthening girls through sport. The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA took the initiative to bring these two programs together, allowing their participants to learn more about work and play on the other side of the globe. Their meeting filled a room with incredibly diverse perspectives.
Together, the girls prepared a healthy version of the Indian dish “Dal,” played in Central park, and forged unlikely friendships.”
