Q: Why did you choose to participate as a mentor with PowerPlay?
A: This program appealed to me because it allows for that initial connection to be made through sports, which I grew up playing. I believe our city’s youth need mentorship to become their best selves, and I’m excited to be a contributor to that.
Q: You’ve had your first meeting with the mentees. Can you reflect on that experience and share any memorable moments or insights gained?
A: My mentee is very cool. She has a lot of varied interests, which is great; qualities like that can expose you to so many new things and opportunities in this world. I loved hearing her share about her parents and family, and her love for artistic expression.
Q: What goals do you have for your mentoring relationship with your mentee(s)?
A: I hope that I can help her hone in on what she wants to focus on post-high school. I also hope to help her expand on her current passions by sharing with her opportunities to do so.
Q: What message would you share with your mentee(s) as they embark on this mentorship journey, what would it be?
A: My message is that it’s never too late to start all over again. Simply, if you follow one road and you aren’t getting the results you hoped for, it’s okay to choose something new and start from scratch!
Q: Looking ahead, what are your hopes and expectations for the mentorship program in the coming months?
A: I hope that I’m able to help my mentee become the best version of herself. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in person and engaging in positive and impactful activities that will stay with these youth as they journey through life.
