Peer Coach Insider: Joss
June 28th, 2022
Being a peer coach for PowerPlay was a wonderful and exciting experience for me. It helped me realize how important it was to be a role model for the younger generation. I learned how to help, give them advice and it got me out of my comfort zone with kids. Before I started, I was nervous but as I continued working with the girls and being myself, I ended up getting along with them. I got to play and talk to the girls during some of the SEL sessions (Social Emotional Learning). I also got to lead some of the games and activities. During the Rugby Tournament, we all got to play with kids from different programs. It was so enjoyable and I’m going to miss it so much,
Working with Coach Carmen was so fun! She reminded me to be myself with the girls and that it would all work out. The girls I worked with were also great. I got to play with them and give them sports advice.
This experience makes me want to make more of an impact on kids and the younger generation. I’ve seen that working as a peer coach and along with other coaches has made an impact on the girls. They loved the sports activities, and they were excited to do more. This experience also made me interested in working with children and it helped me put myself out there. From this program, I’ve grown to learn that even though putting yourself out there is scary, it’s totally worth the risk.
