Q:Why did you choose to participate as a mentor with PowerPlay?
A: I choose to participate as a mentor because I was once a mentee in PowerPlay and it helped me grow it was nice to have someone who can advise me in school, my dream career, or life in general.
Q: You’ve had your first meeting with the mentees. Can you reflect on that experience and share any memorable moments or insights gained?
A: After meeting my mentee, I can say she reminds me a lot of myself. I was shy and very quiet and she has the same personality. I think it’s great she is stepping out of her comfort zone and looking for someone to connect with or who can give her the encouragement she might need.
Q: What goals do you have for your mentoring relationship with your mentee(s)?
A: My main goal is to help her with navigating her junior/senior year of high school. She is the eldest sibling and a first-generation student and is learning to figure it out as she goes. I know how hard that can be. So I would love to be that safe space for her to ask for guidance or just to talk about things.
Q: What message would you share with your mentee(s) as they embark on this mentorship journey, what would it be?
A: I would love for her to know that I’m here to help her as much as she needs. Even after the Mentor/Mentee program ends I would always be open to staying in contact.
Q: Looking ahead, what are your hopes and expectations for the mentorship program in the coming months?
A: My expectations for the mentorship program would be to help Annie in any possible way. I hope to contribute to her life and make her feel like she isn’t alone and has support no matter what. I also would love to give her some exposure to my job because she is interested in the business field. I think it would be cool for her to see how it is and if it’s something she’s interested in.
